Farmer B woke up this morning to hand-made cards, creatively-wrapped presents, wrestling with the pajama-clad boys on the couch and then a breakfast of home-made French toast...just a really great start to the day.
Father's Day is a bit bittersweet for me. I love celebrating it with Farmer B and the boys, but I'm always a bit sad that my dad is no longer with us.
Here he is on the last day I happened to take a photo of him - less than a week before he died. He's wearing the dog's reindeer antlers on his head because that's just the sort of guy he was. I was about eight months pregnant when I took this photo and my oldest son was just shy of two years old. He was laughing his toddler head off that his Grandad was wearing the dog's reindeer antlers and acting like it was totally normal. It's such a great memory.
Miss you Dad. Happy Father's Day.
Great post, Kate. I wish your father was still around, I know you miss him dearly.....
ReplyDeleteThat's a great pic of your dad Kate. Sorry this day is hard for you.....
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you have that photo and those memories. Thank-you once again for being open about your greif, it reminds the rest of us not to take so much for granted.
ReplyDeleteFrom the photo, I can tell your dad was the sort of guy you would want for an "over the fence neighbor"! Nice of you to honor him with the great pic on Father's Day, hope your family had a good one!
ReplyDeleteWonderful and timely post. You have to love a man that will not only wear the dog antlers, agree to be photographed in them and actually look like he enjoyed the entire thing.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good man.
Thank goodness for memories.....
ReplyDeleteBig((HUGS)) to you Kate. Your Dad sounds like he was a real joy in life.
ReplyDeleteGlad I picked today to check in on the blog. Sure do miss Dad and his smile. I am lucky to have known him and had a dad away from home. He's always in our hearts...
ReplyDeleteYour Dad was a very special person. Those who knew him loved him dearly. He would make you laugh in an instant with his crazy funny ways. Memories are wonderful, they keep the person close to us at all times. I can still see him playing the spoons and downing a pint of his precious Yorkshire beer. Yu were a great daughter to him Kate...never forget that he loved you very much.
ReplyDeleteIt was such a pleasure to read about your dad and to see the photo. What a great memory. I suspect you have a sense of humor much like your dad's.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the kind word everyone! It was very nice to read... Yeah, Dad was a one in a million kind of guy. Losing him definitely changed me. I've learned to appreciate what you've got while it's here and not take things in life for granted. He would have loved the garden and the chickens - both things were right up his alley!
