Farmer B took the boys out for some last minute Christmas shopping on the 22nd. He went awfully late in the afternoon and was gone a bit longer than I anticipated. When he got home he called me from the driveway and told me to meet him outside, but to leave our German Shepherd inside, which I thought was strange.
He had this in his arms.
Wow, huh? Do you see the size of those paws? Complete with pot-belly, milky breath, extra skin, a soft head and that new-puppy smell.
She was born on October 2nd and she was flown in from Tennessee. Apparently Farmer B and the boys were at the airport picking this fat little bundle of joy up from the cargo center.
She is yet without a name, but we welcome suggestions.
What an amazing Christmas present, huh? She's adjusting well to life in our family. She's slept through the night both nights and has already scared the feathers of the chickens just by looking at them. Rommel is a bit put out by this new creature in the house, but he is coming around fast. He's been an only dog for only the past 10 months, so we know he'll get used to her quickly.
I think she'll fit in just fine.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Oh how beautiful!! You know the dog will be your constant garden companion. I vote to call it Gnome!
Precious puppy...and yes very large paws!!! Blondie sounds like a good name.
How wonderful! I hope all the animals get along well, and now you will have a great excuse for the raised beds... after all, a Lab puppy will love digging up all your plants, lol! Sounds like you all will have a wonderful holiday, Merry Christmas to your whole family! ...and can't wait to see some pics of that puppy with the chickens :)
Wagglebutt? Coldnose? Godzilla (you just know he's going to walk through the square foot garden like it was Tokyo, puppies have no sense of protocol)?
Oh, how sweet! What a fantastic Christmas present.
What a great present! I like puppies.....
Oh, Kate, how wonderful! Nothing like a new puppy (or kitty) to put a special spin on your life. Hoping you and the crew have a peaceful and loving holiday. Take care. K (aka Mad Beach Maven)
Oooooh! I'm speechless, I have such a big grin on my face! What a sweet little girl! What a lovely gift!
She is GORGEOUS!!!!! GORGEOUS!! My kind of lab, thick, huge feet, thick legs, square head.
Brought tears to my eyes, I know she can never replace Balin, but I hope she makes a close second. Does she have any English (vs Field) in her? She looks it with her girth.
I am SOOO looking forward to watching this little one grow up, the boys must be in heaven. Merry Christmas and congratulations on your new baby!!
(Names?? My girl is named Ivy. Lena (sp.? " lee-na"), Dannon, Mae, and Sam come to mind.)
She's a beauty Kate!
Hi Kate and Crew! I bet the kids were excited to pick up this gift for Mom. What a sweet looking pup! Heidi was at my feet, so I showed her the first photo , and said to her that I wondered what the name was. Then, I read that she doesn't have a name yet.
When I saw how light she looked in one of the photos, I was reminded that Heidi was actually called, "Whitey" by the people whose dog birthed her, because she was so light. The people who first had her lived in New Orleans, and didn't think that was a good name for a dog in the south, so they changed it to Heidi.
I like Darla's idea. I still can't think of one right now. Let us know what you decide.
I just looked at the photos again, and I called her, "Sweetie". That is her name to me so far. I imagine your guys will have other ideas they like better.
