This spaying is important for two reasons:
1) Bob Barker says you should help control the pet population - always spay or neuter your pet. I firmly believe in Bob's message and to be honest, the idea of a litter of mini-Saffie's running around is enough to make me go fetal.
2) I have realized that I really and truly do love The Beast. When she's eating my stuff, digging in my garden, chewing up my money or attacking the cats, it's easy to forget that I really do love her and she has become a member of the family. But when you walk into an animal hospital and hand off that little white innocent puppy to a tech and say "see you tomorrow" and you actually get a lump in your throat, well dammit, you realize you really do love her.
The vet's office just called and told me that the procedure went off without a hitch and that she's in a cage wrapped up in blankets and is starting to wake up. They also microchipped her, which I'm a HUGE proponent of as well. The vet said we have to keep Saffie on a leash for walks for 7 days after the operation - so no running in the house or the yard. Clearly I'll have my work cut out for me since I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen that puppy actually walk anywhere - she does everything at a full-tilt run. Wish me luck! I'm sure to need it.

Ohhhh, poor little puppy. I'm glad to hear all went well. At least it's behind her now. Good luck in keeping her calm.

Those are some cute photos of the little stinker....I'd love to let Jude play with her, because they would have a ball together! We had Jude spayed when she was a puppy, and it went very well....
She looks like she is about to cry. She is a beautiful dog. I believe it makes them better pets when they are spayed/neutered. You probably won't have any problems with her wanting to run right away.
the vet said she did okay? I have pictures in my mind of her coming out of anesthesia today with laser beams in her eyes and a renewed zest for destroying gardens, lol. She's cute as a button, labs rock!
Oh poor Saffie. I can not get over how big she is getting, and man is she GORGEOUS!!
My husband ran over my 10 week old puppy with a Ford F150 so we know all too well about keeping puppies in 'walk mode' on a leash. It basically doesn't happen. Mine jumped baby gates with a broken femur at 11 weeks old. Bless you Kate, you have your work cut out for you, nothing, and I mean NOTHING keeps a good lab down. ;)
Oh my! She is absolutely lovely. I hope Saffron is home soon and getting lots of extra lovin'. We have a yellow lab also named Bradie and love her to pieces.
LOL I knew exactly what the topic was going to be when I saw Saffron's pic and the words "Bob Barker." She is such a beautiful dog!
Get well soon, pretty little girl. Annie says you'll make it through this just fine, but watch your weight! Annie is on a diet, she and I started today. We both gained weight after we were spayed ;-)
Oh, good luck keeping her quiet. Do you have a crate? You may need it. Or barbituates.
Those photos are precious. You could be a pet portraitist.
I blame you for my nightmare of a chicken coop full of Lab puppies. I thought, "Oh no, we can't handle this!"
